MAYA THE ARTIST
MAYA THE ARTIST has worked as a professional portrait artist and illustrator over the last ten years. She received her B.F.A. in Illustration from SCAD, where she developed several styles she uses to create imagery. During her career she has had the opportunity to create work for a variety of clients and markets . You can find her work as part of NY Public Library archives at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem. Also, she created illustrations for The South’s largest children’s museum, EdVenture, for their traveling exhibit and billboards for, “From Here to Timbuktu, a Journey Through West Africa.” In 2017 she will be collaborating with her mentor, John Jennings, professor and visual communicator, on a body of work that will be exhibited at Harvard in May. In addition to developing a new body of work that celebrates the beauty of women and people of color.
